In 2019, Sukanta Kumar Nayak of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the seat by defeating Santosh Khatua of the Biju Janata Dal with a margin of 1577 votes.
Nilgiri Assembly constituency falls under the Balasore Lok sabha constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Pratap Chandra Sarangi won from Balasore Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 12956 votes by defeating Rabindra Kumar Jena of the Biju Janata Dal.
