Bhupesh Baghel is an Indian politician who belongs to the Indian National Congress Party and represents Patan constituency of Durg District in Chhatisgarh Legislative Assembly. He started his political journey as a member of Indian Youth Congress way back in 1985 and won his maiden election to the Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh from Patan constituency in 1993. He again got reelected as MLA from the same constituency in 1998 to be appointed as a Minister of State for Public Grievances Department and later got promoted as the Cabinet Minister for Transport in Madhya Pradesh State Government led by Digvijay Singh.
Later when Chhattisgarh got statehood in 2000, Baghel was the first one to be appointed as the Minister of Revenue in the new state. He has also served as the Deputy Leader of Opposition in Chhatisgarh assembly and before becoming the Chief Minister of the tribal state in 2018, he has served as the President of Chhatisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee and played a pivotal role to bring back the Congress in power in the state after one and a half decade.
Bhupesh Baghel has a keen interest in social services. From his student life he has been associated with lot of political and social activities. He has been advocating social reforms in society. To avoid lavish marriage functions, he initiated low cost marriage campaign which promotes marriages with minimum expenditure. For that he has been organizing mass marriage ceremonies almost every year which earned him massive popularity and respect. CM Baghel was also conferred ‘Mahatma Phule Samta Award for his activism and efforts to bring equality in society.
Bhupesh Baghel is devoted to lead Chhatisgarh to prosperity. His works as the Chief Minister of the state has been widely recognized as the state received several awards and accolades under his leadership. The recent one is 'Cleanest State Award' presented by the President of India Mr. Ramnath Kovind.
