Maragatham K.

Maragatham K hails from Tamil Nadu and is associated with grassroots-level political work in the Chengalpattu district. Her political career developed through her association with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), where she built her presence through local engagement and party organization.

She entered electoral politics by contesting the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election from the Madurantakam (SC) constituency. In a closely contested election, she secured victory, marking her emergence as a legislator in state politics.

As an MLA, she has focused on constituency-level issues, including infrastructure development, implementation of welfare schemes, and addressing local civic concerns. Her role has primarily been centered on constituency service rather than high-profile state leadership.

A major turning point in her political career came shortly after the 2026 election. After supporting the TVK government during the Assembly confidence vote, she resigned as an AIADMK MLA on 25 May 2026. Her resignation was accepted by the Speaker, and she formally joined the ruling TVK on the same day. The move drew widespread political attention and became part of a larger controversy involving defections from the AIADMK to TVK.
