V. D. Satheesan is an Indian politician and one of the top leaders of the Indian National Congress from Kerala. He was born in Njaralloor, Aluva, on 31 May 1964. Later, he graduated in law (LL.B) and social work (MSW) from the University of Kerala. He started his political career with the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and Youth Congress, and in both, he was a position-holder.

Satheesan has been the legislator of the Kerala Legislative Assembly since 2001, when he was elected from the Paravur constituency, the area which he has been representing ever since. As a leader, he is known for his eloquent style and use of logic in policy matters, which helped him to become a dominant figure and one of the most powerful voices in the opposition.

In 2021, he was elected as the Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly, after Ramesh Chennithala. Up to now, 2025, V. D. Satheesan is still here in charge of the Congress’s legislative strategy and public outreach, carrying on their work in the other wing of the house, in Kerala.

In the 2026 Kerala Assembly election, he contested from Paravur as the Congress candidate and secured 78,658 votes. He defeated his nearest rival by 20,600 votes, recording a comfortable win and returning to the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
