Agnimitra Paul was born on November 25, 1972, in Asansol, Paschim Bardhaman, West Bengal. Her father, Dr. Ashok Roy, is a pediatrician, and her mother, Aparna Ray, was the MD at Avishkar Diagnostic Centre.

In 1992, Agnimitra met Partho Paul when he visited her father for official work. Partho had just started working in his family business, Palson Drugs & Chemical Industries. They liked each other from their first meeting. They eventually married, and Partho now serves as the Executive Director of Palson Drugs & Chemical Industries.

After getting married, Agnimitra pursued a course in fashion design, with her husband's support. She became the first working woman in her family. In 1996, she started working with famous designers like Ritu Beri, earning Rs. 2,500 per month. After five years of gaining experience, she saved enough to start her own fashion store.

Agnimitra established her fashion retail label, Inga, located at 13 Palit Street, Garcha, Ballygunge in Kolkata. She designed costumes for various Tamil films and became a well-known fashion designer.

Despite her success in fashion, Agnimitra always wanted to become a doctor. She attempted the JEE exam twice but only made it to the waiting list. Her parents secured her admission to a medical college in Bangalore by donating money, but she returned home after a week due to issues with her boyfriend, Partho.

Apart from her career, Agnimitra is involved in social causes, such as aiding acid attack survivors and helping visually challenged individuals. She founded 'Uma,' a workshop teaching self-defence to women across 23 districts in West Bengal.

Agnimitra Paul transitioned from fashion to politics and currently serves as the MLA for Asansol South in West Bengal. She is also the General Secretary of the West Bengal BJP and the President of the BJMM in West Bengal. She and Partho Paul have two sons, Vighnesh Paul and Siddhesh Paul.

In the 2026 Assembly election, she contested from Asansol Dakshin as the BJP candidate and secured 119,582 votes. She defeated her nearest rival by 40,839 votes, delivering a decisive result and entering the Legislative Assembly.
