Gandhi is the incumbent MP of Ahmednagar in Maharashtra. He was first elected in 1999 following which he was inducted in the cabinet as the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Shipping from 2003-2004. He won the 16th Lok Sabha election by a margin of 200000 votes. Prior to winning crucial Lok Sabha elections, he served as a councillor in the municipal council and secretary in BJP.

Gandhi was elected from Ahmedabad constituency in the Parliamentary elections for three terms.
On 29 Jan. 2015, he became a Member of General Purposes Committee.
From 14 Aug 2014 to 30 Apr 2015, he was the Member of Committee on Public Undertakings
Member, Rules Committee. Also he became the Chairperson of Committee on Subordinate Legislation and the member of Standing Committee on Urban Development, Committee on MPLADS and Consultative Committee, Ministry of Finance and Corporate Affairs.
Gandhi retained his seat in Ahmednagar in the 16th Lok Sabha by thwarting Rajeev Appasaheb Rajale of NCP's bid to the seat with a winning margin of 2,09,122 votes.
He was re-elected in 15th Lok Sabha for a second term from Ahmedabad where he defeated Kardile Shivaji Bhanudas of NCP by a margin of 46,731 votes.
He was the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Shipping from 2003-2004.
Gandhi was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Ahmednagar where he defeated Maruti Deoram Alias Dada Patil Shelke of NCP.
