K. C. Venugopal was brought up in Alappuzha, Kerala. After graduating from college, he jumped right into the next phase of his political journey by working with empowered student activists and climbing up the ranks of KSU, from which he drove the politics of the Congress party. His initial exposure to public life involves deeply rooted campus politics and youth mobilisation.
After he was a prominent youth leader of the Congress in Kerala, Venugopal was also President of the Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress. His transition to mainstream electoral politics in the late 1990s was successful due to his organisational skills and the ability to connect with the masses.
Venugopal first became a member of Parliament after the 2009 Lok Sabha election, in which he was the winner in Alappuzha. He was once again successful in the 2014 elections and thus became one of the most important Congress personalities of coastal Kerala. As a Member of Parliament, he was actively involved in welfare activities related to fishermen, the development of the coast, social justice, and giving central assistance to Kerala.
In 2019, he took charge as General Secretary (Organisation) of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and became the most influential organisational leader of the party at the national level. In 2022, he moved to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan after the polls.
Up to 2025, he is still holding a key position in the party’s strategy at the national level, managing the electoral process, and guiding organisational restructuring.
