M. Liju

M. Liju became active in politics through student and youth-level activities associated with the Congress party in Kerala. His early political involvement focused on grassroots mobilisation, public outreach, and local organisational work, which gradually helped him emerge as a recognised Congress leader.

In 2000, he entered local self-government politics and strengthened his public presence through civic administration and constituency engagement. Over the years, he built a reputation for accessibility and active participation in local development issues.

During the following years, Liju became increasingly involved in Congress organisational activities and election campaigns. His work in party coordination, public programmes, and grassroots mobilisation helped expand his influence within the United Democratic Front structure in Kerala politics.

Between 2021 and 2025, he remained actively engaged in constituency-level politics, focusing on public interaction, campaign coordination, and local welfare issues in Kayamkulam and surrounding areas. His continued political work strengthened his visibility ahead of the Assembly election.

In the 2026 Kerala Assembly election, M. Liju won the Kayamkulam constituency with 76,651 votes, securing victory by a margin of 15,572 votes and registering an important electoral win for the Congress-led UDF.

On 18 May 2026, M. Liju was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in the new Kerala government following the UDF’s victory in the Assembly election.
