Umashree is an Indian actress and politician, who belongs to the Indian National Congress political party.
She was elected as an MLA in the government of Siddaramaiah as the minister for women and child development, empowerment of the differently abled and senior citizens, Kannada language and culture. However, Umashree was born on 10th May, 1957 into the Devanga family in Nonavinakere, Karnataka. In 1980, she was seen in a Kannada film BANGARADA JINKE directed by T S Nagabharana. Subsequently, in the year 1984, Umashree during her initial journey received an award-winning performance in a supporting role in Anubhava with Kashinath. The actress-politician has received National Film Award as the Best Actress for Kannada movie titled as Gulabi in 2008. Besides, the lady does performance in rural areas to highlight the suffer of needy ones. She is also a part of Rangasampada amateur theatre group, situated in Bangalore. Apart from this, Umashree is blessed with two children named Gayathri and Vijayakumar, who were raised by Umashree single handedly.
