Shivanad Patil was born and brought up in Vijayapura (formerly Bijapur). The young lad always associated himself with political activities. Before the 2004 Karnataka state assembly election, honoring the call of S. M. Krishna then Chief Minister, he joined Congress and contested from the Basavana Bagewadi constituency. He also held the portfolio of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry of the Karnataka Coalition Government. His Brother Vijugouda Patil is also a politician from BJP. In the 2023 Assembly elections, he won from the Basavana Bagewadi constituency with 43 percent votes.
