Deepender Singh Hooda was born on January 4, 1978, in Rohtak, Haryana. He is the son of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the former Chief Minister of Haryana. His grandfather, Ranbir Singh Hooda, was a freedom fighter, a member of the Constituent Assembly, and a Minister in Punjab when Haryana was still part of Punjab.
From a young age, Deepender was actively involved in the Indian National Congress. As a student and later as a leader, he participated in various Congress events and functions. Over the past 15 years, he has been a key figure in election campaigns for the Congress Party in the Rohtak Lok Sabha and Kiloi Vidhan Sabha constituencies. He has served the party in many roles, including as a propagandist, leader, and organizer.
He was first elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament in 2005 bye-elections from Rohtak. He retained the seat in the next two consecutive electins.
He has a special interest in agriculture, rural infrastructure, education, and energy projects. He is an avid reader, with a passion for history, economics, and politics. His reading interests range from the American Civil War, Indian Freedom Movement, World War II, and the French Revolution to ancient civilisations like Egypt, Greece, and the Indus Valley.
