Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy was born on 12 August 1944 in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. He used to take part in politics actively and shifted to the East Coast and Rayalaseema areas of the state because of his interest in regional development and public service.
In 1991, he got his first election win to the Lok Sabha, from Ongole constituency with TDP (Telugu Desam Party) support - the first step into the Indian world of politics through national parliamentary networks. He then won the 1996 Lok Sabha election from the same constituency, turning into an experienced parliamentarian with a vision of rural development, infrastructure, and governance.
In 1999, Reddy was again elected to the Lok Sabha from the Nellore constituency, which was a continuation of his earlier career as a parliamentarian. He was very active in the sessions, both in terms of debates and attending committees, discussing the issues of agriculture, irrigation, and economic policy.
After a very short time outside Parliament, he returned to the national stage in 2009 when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Nellore constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate. He continued to represent Nellore and took part in the national legislative process by winning the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
With the continuous movement of the party, Reddy was perceived to be somewhat of an Andhra Pradesh factional leader, which was, however, seen as due to his constant balancing act of constituency engagement and his interests in broader policy matters.
By 2025, he continues to be an aged political figure from Andhra Pradesh through his wide experience in public service and parliamentary representation.
