Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy Biography

Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy is an Indian politician, who served as the last Chief Minister of the United Andhra Pradesh before the formation of the Telangana state. A four-time Member of the Legislative Assembly in Andhra Pradesh, he was a leader of the Indian National Congress party before resigning from it in February 2014 over the creation of Telangana state.

Kiran Kumar Reddy's father Amaranath Reddy was the Congress politician from Chittoor and a close aide of Congress leaders Indira Gandhi and P V Narasimha Rao. Notably, Kiran Kumar decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party weeks after resigning from the INC party.

From 2004 to 2009, for five years, he was appointed the Government Chief Whip in the Legislative Assembly. He was the Chief Whip when the highly emotive issue of Telangana caused a crisis with 143 MLA’s of various political parties resigning, an issue he handled deftly.

From May 2009 to November 2010, for a turbulent one and a half years he served as the Speaker of the 13th Andhra Pradesh assembly, a post to which he was unanimously elected.
