H. K. Patil, whose complete name is Hanumanthappa Kallappa Patil, was born on 19 January 1958 in Karnataka. He started working with public services at a young age and became a dedicated Congress member who worked in the Gadag district. He built a strong relationship with the party organization through his legal expertise and administrative skills, which he developed over time.
He started his legislative career when he won his initial election to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Gadag constituency during the 1990s. He became one of the main Congress leaders in north Karnataka after serving multiple terms, which involved his active participation in governance, law, and administrative reform discussions.
H. K. Patil served as Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj during the Congress government, which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah established in 2013. He managed the execution of rural initiatives, decentralized governance projects, and development initiatives throughout Karnataka to enhance his administrative abilities in the state.
After winning the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections from Gadag as a Congress candidate, he joined the Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet. The government assigned him responsibilities for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, together with Tourism, and his later duties were to oversee legislation and government operations.
H. K. Patil serves as the Gadag MLA and holds ministerial duties in the Karnataka government, as of 2026, while handling legislative matters and state administration.
