For several years in Odisha, it has been a foregone conclusion where the results are concerned. The Biju Janata Dal led by Naveen Patnaik has won election after election with ease. He continues to be a very popular figure in the state and the opposition parties have found it hard to topple him.
In the elections held in 2019 to the 147 assembly seats, the BJD won, 112, while the BJP managed 23 seats. The Congress and others ended with 9 and 2 seats respectively. The next elections to the state is scheduled for 2024. Looking at the popularity that Patnaik continues to enjoy, it would be hard to defeat him and his party. However the BJP is trying to make further inroads into the state, while the Congress is aiming at a revival in Odisha.
