Dr. Subramanian Swamy is an Indian economist, statistician, and politician who serves as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. Swamy has served as a member of the Planning Commission of India and was a Cabinet Minister in the Chandra Shekhar government. Swamy was one of the founding members of the Janata Party. He served as the party's president from its inception in 1990 till 2013, when it was merged with the BJP. He was elected to the Lok Sabha five times between 1974 and 1999.

Subramanian Swamy was just 24 years old when he completed his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He was one of the founding members of the political party that won elections after the emergency. He was made the Cabinet Minister even though he was the opposition leader.
He played a key role in making it possible for the Hindus in India to access the Kailash Mansarovar. His analysis of China is so strong that even Manmohan Singh or Indira Gandhi used to seek Dr. Swamy's views. Swamy moved the Supreme Court seeking that the project be scrapped as the original route was to cut across Ram Sethu, and it was successful in this.
His paper ‘Notes on Fractile Graphical Analysis’ was published in Econometrica in 1963. He got a Recommendation for Harvard and Completed his Ph.D. at Harvard at the age of 24, and then, he with Paul Samuelson published a paper on the theory of index numbers in 1974.
In 1994, Swamy was Chairman of the Commission on Labour Standards and International Trade by former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. He also serves as chairman of the Board of Governors of the SCMS Group of Educational Institutions in Kerala.
