Subramanian Swamy

Subramanian Swamy was instrumental in exposing the colossal 2G Scam. He was challenged to learn the Chinese language within one year. Dr. Swami accepted the challenge and proved his mettle by mastering it within three months.
He was dropped from Harvard University because Swamy proposed to deprive Muslims of voting unless they acknowledge belonging to a Hindu ancestry, Harvard University dropped his two summer economics courses taught by Dr. Swami from its curriculum. His lawyer wife, Roxanna, played a major part in training him in the legal field. Swamy is Chairman of the School of Communication and Management Studies in Kochi. He was a United Nations Economist in 1963 and a Consultant to the World Bank in 1986.

• He became a member of the Rajya Sabha under the Nominated Category.

• After serving as the President of the Janata Party till 2013, he officially joined Bhartiya Janata Party when Rajnath Singh was the party president. Swamy was one of the founding members of the Janata Party and served as its president till 2013.

• Supreme Court of India accepted Swamy's petition against the PMP in the 2G case. Raja was arrested by the CBI in the case and got bail on 15 May 2012. Finally, on December 21, 2017, the special CBI Court Judge acquitted the accused including A Raja.

• Subramanian Swamy wrote five letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking permission to prosecute then telecom minister A. Raja regarding the 2G spectrum case.

• He was elected as a member of Lok Sabha from Madurai. He defeated Rambabu. A.G.S. of TMC(M). He also became a Member of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation Member, the Committee on Defence and its Sub-Committee-I Member, and the Library Committee Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

• Dr. Swamy served as the Chairman of the Commission on Labour Standards and International Trade between 1994 and 1996.

• Swamy served as a member of the Planning Commission of India and as a Cabinet Minister of Commerce and Law from 1990 to 1991. In 1990, he became President and Chairman of the Central Parliamentary Board, Janata Party.

• He was again elected as the Member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. He served in this post until 1994.

• He was re-elected to Lok Sabha from Mumbai North-East and elected on a Janata Party ticket.

• He was elected to Lok Sabha from Bombay North East constituency. He defeated Kulkarni Rajaram Alias Raja Gopal of the Congress Party.

• Member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh, elected on a Jan Sangh party ticket. He served in this post for two years.

• Subramanian Swamy started his political career by joining the Sarvodaya Movement in the late 1960s.

• Subramania Swamy became one of the founding members of Janata Dal during the Emergency in the country.

• He also taught economics courses in summer sessions at Harvard until 2011.

• He served on the Board of Governors of the Council of IITs.

• He served on the Board of Governors of the IIT, Delhi

• Swamy moved to the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and he was a full-time Professor of Mathematical Economics there from 1969 to the early 1970s.

• While studying at Harvard University, Swamy met Roxnna, an Indian lady of Parsi ethnicity who was studying PhD in mathematics at Harvard University. They were married in June 1966.

• Swamy attended Hindu College, University of Delhi where he earned his bachelor's Honours degree in Mathematics. He then took his master's degree in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. He was later recommended by Hendrik S. Houthakker and went to study at Harvard University on a full Rockefeller Scholarship where he received a Ph.D. in Economics in 1965.

Subramanian Swamy was just 24 years old when he completed his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He was one of the founding members of the political party that won elections after the emergency. He was made the Cabinet Minister even though he was the opposition leader.
He played a key role in making it possible for the Hindus in India to access the Kailash Mansarovar. His analysis of China is so strong that even Manmohan Singh or Indira Gandhi used to seek Dr. Swamy's views. Swamy moved the Supreme Court seeking that the project be scrapped as the original route was to cut across Ram Sethu, and it was successful in this.
His paper ‘Notes on Fractile Graphical Analysis’ was published in Econometrica in 1963. He got a Recommendation for Harvard and Completed his Ph.D. at Harvard at the age of 24, and then, he with Paul Samuelson published a paper on the theory of index numbers in 1974.
In 1994, Swamy was Chairman of the Commission on Labour Standards and International Trade by former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. He also serves as chairman of the Board of Governors of the SCMS Group of Educational Institutions in Kerala. He has written on foreign affairs of India dealing largely with the People's Republic of China (PRC), Pakistan, and Israel.
