Devendra Fadnavis Biography

Devendra Fadnavis is the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He previously served as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2014 to 2019, playing a significant role in shaping the state's governance during that period.

Fadnavis comes from a middle-class, progressive family in Nagpur. His educational background is diverse, with a Law Degree, a Postgraduate Degree in Business Management, and a Diploma in Project Management from D.S.E. Berlin.

His political career began in 1992 when he was elected as a Councillor for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, serving two consecutive terms. He became the second youngest Mayor in India and the youngest Mayor of Nagpur. Notably, he was the only person to be re-elected as ‘Mayor in Council’ and served twice in this position. Fadnavis has since been elected as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for five consecutive terms, earning recognition as a leader of the people.

Within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Fadnavis rose steadily from Ward Convener to President of BJP Maharashtra. He has also taken on key responsibilities as the in-charge of Kerala State and election in-charge for Kerala, Bihar, and Goa in 2020-21.

Fadnavis led the campaigns for the historic 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Under his leadership, the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, as well as many rural and urban local body elections, were fought and won, setting new records.

As an MLA, Fadnavis is known for his energetic and intellectual debates, with a keen understanding of fiscal matters, gaining respect across party lines. He has served on various subject committees, standing committees, and joint select committees of the Legislature. He is also a recipient of the Best Parliamentarian Award from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
