In 2022, Deepak Mishra of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the seat by defeating Murli Manohar Jaiswal of the Samajwadi Party with a margin of 16861 votes.
Barhaj Assembly constituency falls under the Bansgaon Lok sabha constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Kamlesh Paswan won from Bansgaon Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 153468 votes by defeating Sadal Prasad of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
