In 2022, Devendra Pratap Singh of the Samajwadi Party won the seat by defeating Dhirendra Bahadur Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party with a margin of 3807 votes.
Sareni Assembly constituency falls under the Rae Bareli Lok sabha constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Indian National Congress candidate Sonia Gandhi won from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 167178 votes by defeating Dinesh Pratap Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
