In 2020, Kumar Shailendra of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the seat by defeating Shailesh Kumar of the Rashtriya Janata Dal with a margin of 6129 votes.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Janata Dal (United) candidate Ajay Kumar Mandal won from Bhagalpur Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 277630 votes by defeating Shailesh Kumar of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
