In 2020, Sudarshan Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) won the seat by defeating Gajanand Shahi of the Indian National Congress with a margin of 113 votes.
Barbigha Assembly constituency falls under the Nawada Lok sabha constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Lok Jan Shakti Party candidate Chandan Singh won from Nawada Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 148072 votes by defeating Vibha Devi of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
