In 2020, Abidur Rahman of the Indian National Congress won the seat by defeating Shagufta Azim of the Janata Dal (United) with a margin of 47936 votes.
Araria Assembly constituency falls under the Araria Lok sabha constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Pradeep Kumar Singh won from Araria Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 137241 votes by defeating Sarfaraz Alam of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
