The Puducherry Legislative Assembly got its first speaker on July 22 1963. A S Gangeyan took oath as the first Speaker of the Union Territory. Puducherry has been under President’s rule in 1978 and 1991. On June 3 2019, V P Sivakolundhu was sworn in as the Speaker of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly.
