In 2022, Mohammed Jamil Ur Rahman of the Aam Aadmi Party won the seat by defeating Razia Sultana of the Indian National Congress with a margin of 21686 votes.
Malerkotla Assembly constituency falls under the Sangrur Lok sabha constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Bhagwant Mann won from Sangrur Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 110211 votes by defeating Kewal Singh Dhillon of the Indian National Congress.
