On March 11 1946, Babu Basanta Kumar Das became Assam’s first Speaker. Assam which has been trouble torn due to insurgency for long has had 20 Speakers in all. On January 30 2017, Hitendra Nath Goswami was sworn in as the Speaker of Assam.
