Lok Janshakti Party(Ram Vilas) (LJP (RV)) Timeline
As of 2026, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) continues as an active regional party in Bihar, recognised as a state party by the Election Commission and aligned with the NDA, with its key leader Chirag Paswan at the helm.
In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, LJP(RV) contested large numbers of seats and registered multiple winners, strengthening its presence in Bihar politics and positioning itself as an influential NDA ally.
2023-2024: The party, under the leadership of Chirag Paswan, remained part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and participated in political activities and seat‑sharing arrangements ahead of national and state elections (including plans for Jharkhand and other polls). More recently, Chirag Paswan was re‑elected as LJP(RV) president for a five‑year term at the party’s National Executive meeting in August 2024.
5 October 2021: The Election Commission of India formally split the original Lok Janshakti Party into two separate political parties following the leadership dispute. Chirag Paswan’s faction became Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJP(RV)), and the other faction led by Pashupati Kumar Paras became the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party.
August 2020: Ram Vilas Paswan passed away. After his death, internal leadership differences intensified within the party between his son Chirag Paswan and his brother Pashupati Kumar Paras.
2019-2020: The undivided LJP, led by Ram Vilas Paswan and later his son Chirag Paswan, contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections and continued its role as an important regional party in Bihar politics.
The original Lok Janshakti Party was founded on 28 November 2000 by veteran leader Ram Vilas Paswan after he split from the Janata Dal. The party was established to champion social justice, particularly for Dalits and backward classes.
