Chirag Kumar Paswan

Chirag Paswan, a scion of the esteemed Indian politician Late Ram Vilas Paswan, holds significant sway in Indian politics. As a Member of Parliament, he serves Jamui in the Lok Sabha, following his father's footsteps. Additionally, he is the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

Chirag Kumar Paswan Biography

Chirag Paswan, son of the former Union Minister Late Ram Vilas Paswan, is at the helm of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and serves as the representative for the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency.

Originally harbouring aspirations for a career in Bollywood, Chirag debuted in the 2011 film "Miley Naa Miley Hum," which unfortunately failed to make an impact at the box office, thus ending his hopes of pursuing acting further. Consequently, he shifted gears towards politics, aligning himself with his father's party, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), and securing a position in the Lok Sabha.

The Grand Alliance marked a period of decline for the LJP, during which Paswan, for the first time since his entry into Delhi politics in 1989, did not hold a ministerial position. Following the detection of a heart ailment in 2013, Paswan passed the reins to his son, who realigned the party's strategy by joining the NDA, leading to victories in both the 2014 and 2019 elections.

Ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Paswan entrusted his son with significant responsibility and facilitated a transfer of power, a strategic maneuver that proved to be politically advantageous. This move bolstered LJP's standing, resulting in the party securing six out of the seven contested seats and emerging as the second-largest party behind the BJP. Subsequently, in 2019, Chirag ascended to the position of LJP's national president.

The 2020 Assembly elections presented a significant challenge for Chirag for two primary reasons. Firstly, it marked his debut without the presence of his father in the political arena. Secondly, with the LJP's formal exit from the NDA alliance in Bihar, Chirag no longer enjoyed the direct support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chirag's political stature faced a setback following the split within the LJP in 2022, initiated by his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, who formed his party, the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party. Looking ahead to the 2024 general elections, Paswan is anticipated to concentrate on galvanizing the Dalit vote in Bihar.
