Pashupati Kumar Paras Biography

Pashupati Kumar Paras is a prominent figure in Indian politics, notably known as the younger sibling of Ramvilas Paswan, founder of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). Representing the constituency of Hajipur, which his brother held from 1977 to 2019, Paras currently serves as the Member of Parliament.

Paras boasts a rich legislative history, having been elected seven times to the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Alauli since 1977. He has maintained a consistent electoral record, winning five consecutive MLA terms from Alauli since 1977. Furthermore, he has represented various political affiliations, including the Janata Party (JP) and Lok Janata Dal (LJD), besides the LJP.

Transitioning from state to national politics, Paras ascended to significant roles within the LJP. In June 2021, he was elected as the party's National President, succeeding Chirag Paswan, son of Ramvilas Paswan.

This elevation followed his assumption of the charge of the National President of the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) after the demise of Ramvilas Paswan and a power struggle with his nephew Chirag Paswan over the party leadership. In 2021, Paras orchestrated a split within the LJP, strategically marginalising Chirag and assuming leadership himself.

In 2019, he secured victory in the parliamentary elections from Hajipur, securing a seat in the Lok Sabha. Currently, Paras also holds the position of state president of the Bihar unit of the Lok Janshakti Party, consolidating his influence in both state and national spheres of politics.
