Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan is one of the strongest personalities of the Congress in Kerala. Thiruvanchoor, who was the Home Minister in the Oommen Chandy cabinet, entered the public arena through the activities of the Balajanasakhyam.
In 1965, he was the state president of the Akhila Kerala Balajanasakhyam. He later became an active member of KSU during his college days and was the Union Chairman and General Secretary (1965) of Baselios College, Kottayam.
He was the Kottayam District President of KSU, the State General Secretary.Later served as the General Secretary of the Kerala University Union and the Chairman of the Kerala University Union during his studies at the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Thiruvanchoor was the KSU State President from 1974-77 and was a lawyer at Kottayam Bar from 1976. In the meantime, he was actively involved in politics.
He was also the State President of KSU from 1974 to 1977. He has also been the State General Secretary of the Youth Congress and the State President of the Youth Congress. He also served as the General Secretary of the KPCC from 1984 to 2001.
Thiruvanchoor first contested for the Assembly in 1991. He contested from Adoor Assembly constituency in 1996, 2001 and 2006 respectively and won. In 2011, he contested from Kottayam and defeated VN Vasavan.
In 2004, Thiruvanchoor was the minister of Water Resources, Forests, Health and Parliamentary Affairs in the first Oommen Chandy cabinet.
He contested from Kottayam constituency in 2011 and won.He was then the Minister of Revenue in the second cabinet. In 2012, he was the Home Minister of second Oommen Chandy cabinet.
