Kompella Madhavi Latha

Kompella Madhavi Latha, commonly known as Madhavi Latha, is a prominent cultural activist and religious speaker based in Hyderabad. She has emerged as a significant figure in the city's socio-political landscape.

Madhavi Latha's journey into politics gained significant attention when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) selected her as their candidate to contest against All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi in the Hyderabad constituency. Notably, this seat has been held by the AIMIM since 1984, initially by Salahuddin Owaisi and then his son Asaduddin Owaisi. Asaduddin Owaisi, a four-time Member of Parliament, secured victory in 2019 with a substantial margin of over 2.5 lakh votes against BJP's Bhagavanth Rao.

What sets Madhavi Latha apart is her proactive engagement in political discourse even before formally joining the BJP. Her nomination as the BJP candidate from the Hyderabad constituency preceded her official affiliation with the party, marking a strategic move by the BJP to challenge the longstanding dominance of the AIMIM in the region.

Apart from her political endeavours, Madhavi Latha is recognised for her commitment to Hindu causes and religious advocacy. She has actively campaigned against practices like triple talaq, which was outlawed in 2019. Collaborating with Muslim women's groups, she has been instrumental in advocating for the abolition of this practice, particularly addressing the issue in the old city of Hyderabad.

A complaint led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against her. The complaint alleged that she offended the sentiments of the Muslim community by making a gesture resembling shooting an arrow towards a place of worship. This action was captured in a video that circulated widely on social media.

In addition to her political and religious engagements, Madhavi Latha is deeply involved in philanthropic activities. She is associated with various charitable organisations, including the Lopamudra Charitable Trust and the LathaMa Foundation. Her contributions extend to sponsoring girls' education, organising health camps, and providing aid during natural calamities such as floods.
