Srinath Alnath Biography

Srinath Alnath was born on 18 July 1973 in Madras, Tamil Nadu. He entered the Tamil film industry during the early 1990s and appeared in actor Vijay’s debut film Naalaya Theerpu in 1992. During this period, Srinath also developed a close personal friendship with Vijay, with both reportedly having known each other since their college days. His early years in cinema involved assistant direction work alongside acting assignments, helping him establish connections within the Tamil film industry before moving into mainstream supporting roles. In 1996, Srinath appeared in Maanbumigu Maanavan, followed by 12B in 2001, where he also worked as an assistant director. Between 2002 and 2003, he acted in films such as Yai! Nee Romba Azhaga Irukke!, Kadhal Virus, and Alai. His breakthrough visibility arrived in 2005 after director Jeeva cast him in Ullam Ketkumae. The film helped him gain wider recognition in Tamil cinema. In 2007, he appeared in Unnale Unnale, continuing his association with director Jeeva’s production circle.

Srinath significantly expanded his acting career during 2008 and 2009. In 2008, he appeared in Bheema, Santosh Subramaniam, Dhaam Dhoom, and Mahesh, Saranya Matrum Palar. In 2009, he acted in Maasilamani, Eeram, and Vijay’s Vettaikkaaran. The same year marked a major turning point when he made his directorial debut with Muthirai. His transition from supporting actor to director established him as a multifaceted figure in the Tamil entertainment industry.

Between 2010 and 2014, Srinath continued appearing in films including Kutty (2010), Uthamaputhiran (2010), Rowthiram (2011), Mahaan Kanakku (2011), and Manam Kothi Paravai (2012). In 2014, he directed Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham, starring Santhanam. The film became one of the most commercially visible projects in his directing career and strengthened his identity as a filmmaker beyond his acting assignments. During this period, he also appeared in television serials including Kadhalikka Neramillai.

From 2016 onward, Srinath remained active in cinema with appearances in Uyire Uyire (2016), Kaaviyyan (2019), and Vijay’s Master in 2021. In 2023, he appeared in Echo and Let’s Get Married. In 2025, he directed and acted in Leg Piece, featuring Yogi Babu. Around the same period, Vijay’s transition from cinema into full-time politics and the organisational expansion of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam brought several of his close associates, including Srinath, into active political activity connected with the party’s grassroots mobilisation.

In April 2026, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam officially fielded Srinath from the Thoothukkudi Assembly constituency for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. His candidature drew statewide attention because he was directly contesting against DMK minister P. Geetha Jeevan and AIADMK leader S. T. Chellapandian in a high-profile triangular contest. During the campaign, Srinath repeatedly highlighted his long association with Vijay and relied heavily on TVK’s rapid grassroots mobilisation in southern Tamil Nadu.

On 4 May 2026, Srinath won the Thoothukkudi Assembly constituency as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidate by defeating DMK leader and minister P. Geetha Jeevan by a margin of 37,731 votes. He secured 100,536 votes, registering one of TVK’s earliest and most symbolically important victories during the party’s maiden Assembly election. His victory was widely discussed because it marked TVK’s breakthrough against established Dravidian party leadership in southern Tamil Nadu and demonstrated the party’s ability to convert Vijay’s popularity into electoral success.
