In March 2026, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam officially announced D. Sarathkumar as its candidate from the Tambaram Assembly constituency. On 4 May 2026, D. Sarathkumar won the Tambaram Assembly constituency as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidate by securing 118,967 votes. He won the constituency with a margin of 35,621 votes, registering one of TVK’s major victories in the Chennai suburban region during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election. His victory significantly increased his political visibility and established him as one of the first-time legislators elected from the Chennai metropolitan belt under the TVK banner.
