Kamali S was born in 1998 in Tamil Nadu and is associated with Rasipuram in Namakkal district. She pursued higher education in English literature and completed her Master of Arts (M.A.) in English Literature from Pavai Girls Arts and Science College, Rasipuram, in 2018. In 2023, she completed her Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Vidhya Mandir College at Guruswamypalayam. Before entering active politics, she was associated with educational and social activities at the grassroots level.
According to her election affidavit filed during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, Kamali declared herself as a homemaker, while her spouse Senthilnathan was engaged in self-employment through an e-service centre. Her affidavit also recorded assets worth more than ₹32 lakh and confirmed that no criminal cases were registered against her. The affidavit became one of the first publicly available official records documenting her educational qualifications and professional background before her entry into legislative politics.
Kamali began her political journey through Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam during the organisational expansion phase initiated by actor-politician Vijay ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election. During 2024 and 2025, TVK intensified booth-level and constituency-level mobilisation across western Tamil Nadu, particularly in Tiruppur district and neighbouring regions. Kamali emerged from this grassroots structure as a young local face of the party and became associated with community outreach programmes connected with education and women’s participation in politics.
In early 2026, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam selected Kamali as its candidate from the Avanashi (SC) Assembly constituency in Tiruppur district. Her candidature immediately gained political visibility because she was contesting against Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union Minister of State L. Murugan, while the DMK fielded doctor Gokilamani V in the same constituency. At 28 years of age, Kamali became one of the youngest candidates fielded by TVK during the election. Her campaign focused heavily on local engagement, women’s outreach, and village-level interactions across the constituency.
During the 2026 election campaign, Kamali’s candidature was widely discussed because of the direct contest involving a first-time TVK candidate and a sitting Union minister. Political observers viewed Avanashi as a significant test constituency for TVK in western Tamil Nadu. Campaign reports and online discussions highlighted her extensive door-to-door outreach, localised campaigning style, and visibility among women and younger voters. Her campaign also drew attention for projecting a non-traditional political profile centred on education and grassroots accessibility rather than long-term dynastic politics.
On 4 May 2026, Kamali won the Avanashi (SC) Assembly constituency as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidate by securing 84,209 votes. She defeated BJP candidate and Union Minister L. Murugan by a margin of 15,373 votes, while DMK candidate Gokilamani V finished third. Her victory became one of the most discussed constituency results in western Tamil Nadu because it marked a major electoral upset against a nationally known BJP leader and established Kamali as one of TVK’s prominent first-time MLAs.
