Multiple online political discussions during the election period described him as belonging to a middle-class background and being actively involved in direct constituency engagement before receiving the party nomination for the Assembly election.

In April 2026, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam officially announced Ramesh as its candidate from the Srirangam Assembly constituency. His candidature immediately attracted attention because Srirangam is considered one of the politically symbolic constituencies in Tamil Nadu and had previously been represented by former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. During the final phase of the 2026 election campaign, Ramesh gained additional public attention after reports emerged regarding attacks on his campaign office and political tensions during constituency campaigning. Political observers increasingly identified him as one of the young TVK candidates receiving substantial public visibility in the Tiruchirappalli region during the election campaign.

On 4 May 2026, Ramesh won the Srirangam Assembly constituency as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidate by securing 103,235 votes. He defeated DMK candidate S. Durairaj by a margin of 33,590 votes, registering one of the most politically discussed victories in the Tiruchirappalli region during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election. His victory significantly increased his political visibility within the party and established him as one of the first-time legislators elected from central Tamil Nadu under the TVK banner.
