N. Anand, widely recognized as Bussy Anand, was born on 18 July 1964 in Puducherry. He is the son of D. Narayanasamy. Anand received his education from Calve College, Puducherry. Before his foray into full-time politics, he was involved in finance and real estate businesses in Puducherry. Anand's political journey began as an ardent fan of actor Vijay, becoming the honorary president and later the president of Vijay's fan club in Puducherry. He also served as an aide to Ashraf, a former minister in Puducherry.

His electoral debut saw him win the 2006 Puducherry Legislative Assembly election from the Bussy constituency, representing the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC). This victory led to his popular nickname, 'Bussy' Anand.
