N. Anand, widely recognized as Bussy Anand, was born on 18 July 1964 in Puducherry. He is the son of D. Narayanasamy. Anand received his education from Calve College, Puducherry. Before his foray into full-time politics, he was involved in finance and real estate businesses in Puducherry. Anand's political journey began as an ardent fan of actor Vijay, becoming the honorary president and later the president of Vijay's fan club in Puducherry. He also served as an aide to Ashraf, a former minister in Puducherry.
His electoral debut saw him win the 2006 Puducherry Legislative Assembly election from the Bussy constituency, representing the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC). This victory led to his popular nickname, 'Bussy' Anand. During his tenure as an MLA, he was notable for his personal involvement in civic activities such as garbage collection and drain cleaning, often spending his own funds for these public services. He sought re-election in 2011 and 2016 from the Oupalam constituency, first as an independent, then with the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), but was unsuccessful.
Anand played a crucial role in transforming Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, actor Vijay's welfare association, into a political force. On 2 February 2024, he was appointed as the General Secretary of the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), positioning him as a key leader within the party under its president, Vijay. The TVK aims to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Recently, Bussy Anand has been in the news regarding legal proceedings. Following rallies in Namakkal and Karur in September 2025, police registered cases against him and other TVK functionaries. Specifically, he was named in an FIR and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, among other offenses, in connection with a stampede at a Karur rally that resulted in forty-one deaths. He sought anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court, alleging political conspiracy, but his plea was denied on October 3, 2025. Three special police teams have been formed to apprehend him and another party leader.
