In November 2025, following a series of events that included a fallout with the party leadership, his expulsion, and a resignation from the post of MLA, he later became a member of Tamilaga Vettri ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Kazhagam.

K.A.​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Sengottaiyan was raised on a farm in Kambaliyampatti and is a native of Sathyamangalam, Erode district of Tamil Nadu. The surroundings of his upbringing were instrumental in developing his fascination with political life and politics at the grassroots level. He finished his secondary education in 1966 and was strongly influenced by Dravidianism and social service from the very beginning.

He joined the AIADMK in 1972, a his political career was launched. And through his work as Panchayat Secretary and later as Erode District Secretary, he went up the party hierarchy. In 1977, he first went into politics, this time directly, as a candidate for the legislative assembly from Sathyamangalam, then at various times, he has been the MLA from Gobichettipalayam. His career continued, and with him, transport, agriculture, information technology, revenue, and school education departments were the ministerial portfolios in the different Tamil Nadu governments that he has held over the years.

He was the Minister of School Education, Youth Welfare, and Sports Development, between the years 2017 and 2021, in the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government, and at the same time, he was also the 8th Presidium Chairman of the AIADMK.

In November 2025, as a result of his feuds with the party leadership and disciplinary action, he resigned from the post of MLA, cut off his long association with the AIADMK, and later joined the Tamilaga Vettri ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Kazhagam.
