M. Ravisankar

M. Ravisankar is a political leader from Tamil Nadu who rose to prominence through Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam during the 2026 state election. He belongs to the Scheduled Caste community and contested from the reserved Thuraiyur constituency. At the time of the election, he was 41 years old.

Before entering legislative politics, Ravisankar identified his profession as an electrician service worker, reflecting a working-class background rather than a traditional dynastic route into politics. His rise was seen as part of TVK’s strategy of fielding grassroots candidates, professionals, and first-time entrants across Tamil Nadu.

During TVK’s statewide expansion in 2025–26, he became associated with constituency mobilisation and campaign activity in the Tiruchirappalli region. His candidature in Thuraiyur indicated the party’s attempt to broaden support in reserved and rural constituencies beyond major cities.

In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, he won from Thuraiyur with 66,263 votes, defeating AIADMK candidate E. Saroja by 9,614 votes. The victory placed him among the first generation of successful TVK legislators from central Tamil Nadu.

On 12 May 2026, his political ascent continued when he was officially elected as Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The appointment reflected the ruling party’s confidence in his emergence as a reliable younger legislative figure in the new Assembly.
