R. V. Ranjithkumar

R. V. Ranjithkumar was born in 1984 in Tamil Nadu and is associated with the Kancheepuram district. According to the affidavit submitted during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, he pursued higher education in commerce and completed a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree from Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai, in 2005. Before entering electoral politics, he was engaged in business and local public activities within the Kancheepuram region. His election affidavit also declared assets exceeding ₹1 crore and confirmed that no criminal cases were registered against him at the time of filing his nomination.

The Kancheepuram Assembly constituency has historically been regarded as a politically influential constituency in northern Tamil Nadu because of its religious, urban, and semi-rural electoral mix. Following the 2008 delimitation process, the constituency became part of the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha segment and witnessed alternating electoral contests among the DMK, AIADMK, and Congress. Between 2011 and 2021, the constituency remained electorally competitive, making it one of the strategically important seats targeted by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam during its first Assembly election campaign in 2026.

During 2024, actor Vijay formally expanded Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s political structure across Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 Assembly election. As part of this organisational growth phase, TVK concentrated on recruiting constituency-level faces in northern Tamil Nadu, including Kancheepuram district. R. V. Ranjithkumar emerged within this local expansion process and became associated with booth-level outreach and constituency mobilisation programmes conducted by the party during 2024 and 2025. His visibility increased as TVK attempted to establish a foothold in constituencies traditionally dominated by the DMK and AIADMK.

In April 2026, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam officially announced R. V. Ranjithkumar as its candidate from the Kancheepuram Assembly constituency. His candidature became politically notable because he was contesting in a constituency known for strong Dravidian party competition and a socially diverse voter base. During the campaign, TVK focused heavily on youth outreach, anti-incumbency narratives, and grassroots mobilisation in urban and peri-urban areas of Kancheepuram district. Ranjithkumar participated in constituency-level roadshows, public meetings, and local voter engagement campaigns as part of TVK’s statewide election strategy led by Vijay.

During the 2026 Assembly election campaign, Kancheepuram was widely viewed as one of the constituencies where TVK had become unexpectedly competitive against established parties. Political observers and election analysts noted the party’s rapid expansion among younger voters and first-time voters in northern Tamil Nadu. Campaign discussions surrounding the constituency frequently highlighted the combination of Vijay’s statewide popularity and TVK’s aggressive booth-level organisational strategy in Kancheepuram district.

On 4 May 2026, R. V. Ranjithkumar won the Kancheepuram Assembly constituency as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidate by securing 91,350 votes. He won the constituency with a margin of 15,488 votes, registering one of TVK’s important victories in northern Tamil Nadu during the party’s maiden Assembly election. The result strengthened TVK’s political presence in the Kancheepuram region and was viewed as a significant breakthrough in a constituency historically dominated by established Dravidian parties.
