C. Vijayalaksmi

C. Vijayalakshmi was born in 1976 in Tamil Nadu and is associated with the Namakkal district. According to her election affidavit filed before the Election Commission during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, she completed her schooling up to Class 12. Her affidavit records that she passed the SSLC in 1990 and Higher Secondary education in 1992. Before entering electoral politics, she remained associated with local community and family-based activities in the Kumarapalayam region of western Tamil Nadu. Her publicly available affidavit also declared assets worth approximately ₹97 lakh and liabilities exceeding ₹12 lakh.

Kumarapalayam constituency itself became politically significant after the 2008 delimitation process in Tamil Nadu. The constituency, located in Namakkal district and forming part of the Erode Lok Sabha constituency, emerged as a politically competitive seat within the Kongu region. Between 2011 and 2021, the constituency remained strongly associated with AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister P. Thangamani, who represented the seat for three consecutive terms. This political background made the constituency strategically important for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam during its first Assembly election campaign in 2026.

During 2024, following actor Vijay’s formal political expansion through Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the party began building booth-level and constituency-level organisational structures across Tamil Nadu. Western Tamil Nadu, particularly the Kongu belt, emerged as one of TVK’s major focus regions because of its electoral importance and long-standing dominance by AIADMK and DMK. Vijayalakshmi became associated with the party’s local mobilisation efforts during this expansion phase and gradually emerged as one of the party’s constituency-level faces in Kumarapalayam.

In April 2026, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam officially announced C. Vijayalakshmi as its candidate from the Kumarapalayam Assembly constituency for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. Her candidature immediately attracted political attention because she was contesting against senior AIADMK leader and former minister P. Thangamani, while the DMK fielded S. Balu in the same constituency. Kumarapalayam was viewed as a difficult constituency for first-time candidates because of AIADMK’s entrenched political structure in the region. Political observers treated the constituency as an important electoral test for TVK’s organisational growth in western Tamil Nadu.

During the 2026 campaign period, Vijayalakshmi participated in constituency-level public outreach programmes and village-based mobilisation activities under TVK’s statewide campaign led by Vijay. The party concentrated heavily on anti-incumbency messaging, youth engagement, and booth-level expansion in western Tamil Nadu. Campaign discussions across regional political forums and public conversations increasingly highlighted Kumarapalayam as one of the constituencies where TVK had become electorally competitive against established Dravidian parties.

On 4 May 2026, C. Vijayalakshmi won the Kumarapalayam Assembly constituency as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam candidate by securing 81,179 votes. She defeated AIADMK candidate and former minister P. Thangamani by a margin of 7,696 votes, while DMK candidate S. Balu finished third. Her victory was considered politically significant because Kumarapalayam had previously been regarded as an AIADMK stronghold within the Kongu belt region. The result also strengthened TVK’s emerging electoral presence in western Tamil Nadu during its maiden Assembly election.
