R. Gandhi

R. Gandhi serves as a senior Indian politician who represents Tamil Nadu through his membership in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party. He was born on 5 September 1946 in the Ranipet–Vellore region of Tamil Nadu and has remained closely associated with this region throughout his public life. His initial contact with grassroots political activities, together with his participation in local party organization building blocks for his long-lasting profession within the DMK district-level organization.

His entry into electoral politics occurred in 1996 when he won election to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Ranipet Assembly constituency. During his first legislative period, he developed skills in lawmaking, together with his duties of managing his constituency. He maintained his active role in party activities while he worked in the DMK district organization through his electoral campaign failures during the early 2000s.

R. Gandhi returned to the Assembly in 2006 with another electoral victory from Ranipet, which established him as a reliable constituency representative. After another non-legislative phase, he made a successful comeback in 2016 and was subsequently re-elected in 2021, which demonstrated his enduring voter support. His political identity has developed through his continuous representation of constituencies and his dedicated membership in his political party across these periods.

R. Gandhi served as DMK political secretary for many years while he held his position as a legislative member. He combined these duties with his role as Vellore district DMK secretary and his later position as Ranipet district DMK secretary. His positions allowed him to manage party activities, which included recruiting new members and organizing elections at the district level, which enhanced the church's flexible system through grassroots connections.

The Tamil Nadu Council appointed him to membership after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
