K. R. Periyakaruppan

K.​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ R. Periyakaruppan was born on 30 December 1959 in Aralikkottai, located in the Sivaganga district. After completing a bachelor’s degree in commerce, he went on to study law, credentials that influenced his work in the public arena and legal outreach at the constituency level. Before moving up to state elections, he was involved with DMK at the district level.

Periyakaruppan first made a successful political move in 2006 when he was elected MLA from Tiruppattur. He was given a number of responsibilities in the 2006–2011 DMK government, including slum clearance and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, through which he got a lot of administrative experience in municipal and social welfare areas.

After consecutive re-elections, he was given the charge of the Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation department after the 2021 Assembly election, where he mainly focused on the implementation of rural schemes and local livelihood programmes.

In December 2022, he was transferred to the Co-operatives ministry, where his brief has been the direction of cooperative banks, primary agricultural credit societies and empowering the rural cooperative institutions. He has spent more than twenty years combining his work in the legislature and performing his portfolio duties of rural welfare, municipal services and cooperative development while also performing constituency service in ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Sivaganga.
