He was born on 15 July 1965 in Madurai district, a region known for its historical and political significance in the state. From his early years, he remained closely connected to grassroots political activity and local governance structures in Madurai.
He entered electoral politics in 2006, when he was elected as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Madurai East Assembly constituency. In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he was once again elected as MLA from Madurai East. Following this victory, he was inducted into the Tamil Nadu Council of Ministers under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin as the Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration. This appointment marked his entry into the state cabinet and expanded his responsibilities at the executive level.
