Dayanidhi Maran is a celebrated political person cum leader of Tamilnadu. He was one of the prominent members of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. Dayanidhi Maran elected as an MP or Member of the Parliament from Tamilnadu twice and he represents the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or DMK in the Parliament. Thiru Dayanidhi Maran has been elected in the 15th Lok Sabha by winning the Parliamentary Election of 2009. Thiru Dayanidhi Maran has been elected from the Chennai Central Lok Sabha Constituency. He is the son of former Union Minister Murasoli Maran and the grandnephew of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi. He is the younger brother of Indian billionaire Kalanidhi Maran, the founder, chairman and managing director of Sun Group.

He Contributed several editorials to Kungumam – a Tamil Weekly; and associated with print media and information technology for the last 13 years; During his tenure as IT and Telecommunication Minister the call rates of mobiles and landlines were drastically reduced which in-turn influenced the growth of subscriptions; His ministry introduced "One Rupee One India" plan across the country, which enabled calls across the country at a rate of 1 ₹ per minute.
