Anitha R. Radhakrishnan

Anitha R. Radhakrishnan was born on 19 September 1951 in Thandupathu village, Udangudi taluk, Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu. He entered public life through sustained grassroots engagement in the Tiruchendur region and gradually established himself as a constituency-focused leader with deep local roots.

He achieved his first major electoral success in 2001, when he was elected as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Tiruchendur constituency. During the early phase of his legislative career, he gained administrative exposure and experience in state governance through executive responsibilities.

In 2009, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and subsequently won the Tiruchendur by-election, marking a significant transition in his political career. This phase strengthened his standing within the party and consolidated his electoral base.

He was re-elected as MLA in the 2011, 2016, and 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, reflecting sustained voter confidence. His repeated electoral victories established him as one of the long-serving legislators from the Tiruchendur constituency.

In May 2021, he was inducted into the Tamil Nadu Council of Ministers under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin as Minister for Fisheries, Fishermen Welfare, and Animal Husbandry. His ministerial portfolio includes policy oversight for fishermen's welfare schemes, coastal development initiatives, and livestock sector administration.

As of 2026, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan continues to serve as a cabinet minister and MLA, maintaining an active role in Tamil Nadu’s legislative and executive governance, with a focus on constituency development and sector-specific administration.
