Priya Rajan (born in 1993) is a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party member and a politician from Tamil Nadu, India. She made history in March 2022 after becoming the first Dalit woman and the youngest person to be appointed the Mayor of Chennai, which is the 4th most populous urban area of India. Currently, she is the Greater Chennai Corporation councillor of the Thiru Vi Ka Nagar ward. Coming from a family with roots deeply entrenched in politics, Priya is the daughter of R. Rajan, a DMK functionary. She was exposed to the world of politics and its effect on the local community at an early age, which ultimately impacted her desire for public service. Post her marriage to Venkatesan, who is an IT expert, has been very encouraging to her personally while she goes through her political career. In her capacity as the Mayor of the city of Chennai, Priya Rajan took the initiative to work on the beautification of the city, empowering women, social justice, and implementation of welfare schemes for the marginalized sections of society. Moreover, she raised a voice for it that all the development works carried out in the city must be led by the inclusion and should be directed to the betterment of the lives of the common people. Running a government led by her will be a symbol of the DMK's commitment in involving youngsters and women in political administration. Until now, because of her activism, Priya thoroughly deserves to be hailed as a forward-thinking young leader who successfully manages contemporary urban problems by applying the teachings of the Dravidian movement.
