P. Moorthy

P. Moorthy is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu who serves as a senior member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He was born on 15 July 1965 in the Madurai district, which contains sites that have historical and political importance for the state. From his early years, he maintained a strong relationship with local political activities and the governance systems of Madurai.

He started his political career in 2006 when voters chose him to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Madurai East Assembly constituency. His first election win opened the door to his legislative career, which made him a leading DMK representative for the area. His work during this time consisted of developing his constituency while he worked to build party membership.

After a brief electoral setback, P. Moorthy made a strong political comeback by winning the 2016 Assembly election from Madurai East. Public support for him and his political party's strength enabled him to win back his Assembly seat. He remained active during legislative sessions, and he worked on community development projects.

He won the election as MLA for Madurai East in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. After this win, he joined the Tamil Nadu Council of Ministers under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin as the Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration. His designation as a state cabinet member expanded his executive duties beyond his previous responsibilities.

P. Moorthy has held his position as Madurai East MLA and cabinet minister since 2026, while achieving multiple election victories, fulfilling administrative duties, and staying affiliated with DMK.
