I. Periyasamy is the senior leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Tamil Nadu. He represented the Athoor constituency as an MLA several times.

He has been a minister for various departments in the government of Tamil Nadu through his long service in politics, including Small Industries & Noon Meal (1996-2001), Revenue & Housing (2006-2011), Co-operation (2021-2022), and presently he is Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats since December 2022.

Recently, in 2025, the Enforcement Directorate executed searches at properties associated with him and his family in connection with a money-laundering probe alleging the accumulation of assets disproportionate to declared income.

I. Periyasamy is one of the senior leaders in the DMK party and the Cooperative Minister of Tamilnadu. He was the former minister for revenue and housing under the DMK regime from 2006 to 2011. In 2021 Tamilnadu assembly elections he won from Athoor, Dindugal constituency with the highest vote margin. He got 1,63,689 votes in 2021 elections. This is his six Assembly poll victory, including consecutively winning the last four elections. He was born in Batlagundu on 6 January 1953. His son I.P.Senthil Kumar is also an MLA in Palani constituency Tamil nadu.
