Mimi Chakraborty was born on 11 February 1989 in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, to Arun Chakraborty and Tapashi Chakraborty. She spent part of her childhood in Arunachal Pradesh before her family returned to their ancestral home in Jalpaiguri. She completed her schooling at Holy Child School, Jalpaiguri, and St. James’ School, Binnaguri, and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Asutosh College, Kolkata, in 2011.
Chakraborty began her career as a model and participated in the Femina Miss India pageant, which helped launch her public profile. She made her television acting debut in the serial “Champion” (2008) and gained wider recognition with her role as ‘Pupe’ in the TV series Gaaner Oparey (2010–2011). Her transition to films came with her big-screen debut in Bapi Bari Jaa (2012), and she went on to act in several successful Bengali films including Bojhena Shey Bojhena (2012), Proloy (2013), Yoddha: The Warrior (2014), Shudhu Tomari Jonyo (2015), Ki Kore Toke Bolbo (2016), Posto, Dracula Sir (2020), and Raktabeej (2023).
In March 2019, Chakraborty made her political debut by joining the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and contesting the Lok Sabha election from the Jadavpur constituency in West Bengal. She won the seat in the 2019 general election with a large margin, becoming a Member of Parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha, where she engaged in parliamentary debates and constituency work.
After serving as MP from Jadavpur, Chakraborty resigned from her Lok Sabha seat on 15 February 2024 and stepped back from active politics, citing that she would not continue in that role beyond her term.
