Sujit Bose Biography

Sujit Bose was born on 1 December 1962 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Before entering electoral politics, he was actively involved in youth politics, beginning his journey with the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the CPI(M) youth wing. Later, he shifted political allegiance to the AITC in the early 2000s as that party began challenging Left dominance in the state.

He initially contested elections from the Belgachia-East Assembly constituency, where he took on veteran CPI(M) leader Subhash Chakraborty in 2006 but lost narrowly. After Chakraborty died in 2009, Bose won the by-poll against Chakraborty’s wife, Ramala, marking his entry into the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

Following delimitation, Bose contested and won the newly established Bidhannagar Assembly seat in 2011, defeating opponents from rival parties. He successfully retained this seat in 2016 and 2021, building a strong voter base in the suburbs of Kolkata.

In the Government of West Bengal, Bose has been appointed since 2 May 2021 as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Fire and Emergency Services, responsible for public safety infrastructure and emergency response coordination. Beyond formal duties, he has been associated with organising cultural events and community initiatives in his constituency.

As of 2026, he continues as MLA and cabinet minister, focusing on administrative leadership and constituency service.
