Dibyendu Adhikari

Dibyendu Adhikari hails from a prominent political family in West Bengal and is the son of veteran leader Sisirkumar Adhikari. Growing up in a politically active environment, he was exposed early to grassroots political work and public life, which played a key role in shaping his entry into politics. His family has had a strong presence in the politics of Purba Medinipur district.

He formally entered electoral politics as a member of the All India Trinamool Congress and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Tamluk constituency. His victory marked the beginning of his parliamentary career and established him as a representative of one of the politically significant constituencies in West Bengal.

During his tenure as Member of Parliament, he has been associated with parliamentary proceedings and constituency-level development work. His role has involved addressing local issues, participating in legislative discussions, and maintaining the political influence of the Adhikari family in the region.

His political journey has also unfolded alongside shifts within the Adhikari family, particularly with his brother Suvendu Adhikari joining the BJP, which created a significant political divide within the family. Despite this, Dibyendu Adhikari has continued with the Trinamool Congress, maintaining his independent political stance and party alignment.

In the lead-up to the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, he has been fielded from the Egra constituency, marking a transition from parliamentary to state-level electoral politics. His candidature reflects the party’s strategy to deploy experienced leaders in key constituencies to strengthen its electoral prospects.

He continues to remain active in West Bengal politics through both parliamentary experience and electoral participation at the state level. As of April 2026, he is contesting in the West Bengal Assembly elections from the Egra constituency, continuing his electoral presence in the state.
